Overview

Meet Escambia River Electric Cooperative

As a member-owned cooperative, Escambia River Electric Cooperative’s (EREC) mission goes beyond providing electricity; it’s about enhancing their community’s quality of life. To navigate the demand of new technology while staying true to their community roots, EREC teamed up with Powerful. Together, EREC and Powerful aimed to revitalize EREC’s website to boost community engagement and enhance the use of online tools.

Enhancing Community Connection

EREC’s commitment to its community is mirrored in the website’s new design. Powerful strategically placed the community section within the global navigation. This choice ensures this content is immediately accessible, no matter where visitors are on the site. The community section serves as a portal to various community initiatives.

Youth Engagement Through Digital Innovation

The introduction of an online scholarship application is a standout aspect of the redesign. This feature aligns with the preferences of younger community members. It’s a strategic move to lower barriers to participation, encouraging more young members to take advantage of educational opportunities and become active participants in the cooperative’s community-focused initiatives.

Elevating Services with Online Tools

Understanding that a majority of members visit EREC’s website for bill payments, Powerful integrated the Meridian login system prominently on the website. Placed within a bold yellow button on the global navigation, this integration features a dropdown with form fields. The login button allows members to access a range of services without the need to navigate through multiple pages. Whether they’re paying bills, viewing usage, or updating account details, members can complete their tasks efficiently, in just a few clicks. This design choice significantly reduces the time and effort required for online transactions, demonstrating EREC’s dedication to convenience and member satisfaction.

Challenges

EREC faced the challenge of keeping their members informed and educated, aligning with Cooperative Principle #5: Education, Training, and Information. EREC needed to ensure that their website served as a real-time educational platform, reflecting the latest updates, insights, and news.

Solutions

To address these challenges, EREC leveraged its website's News and Recent Stories section, introducing a dedicated space for their "Message from the CEO." The inclusion of the "Message from the CEO" became an exemplary use of this section, demonstrating EREC's dedication to open, direct communication. Powerful introduced a visitor-friendly content management system that empowers EREC's staff to easily update the news section with fresh content.

Results

With up-to-date content, EREC strengthens its commitment to Cooperative Principle #5, facilitating a platform where members are more informed, engaged, and connected to their cooperative's mission and initiatives. This commitment to real-time education and information creates a stronger sense of active participation among members, who now have access to the latest cooperative news and insights at their fingertips.

Escambia River Electric Cooperative previously had a website with Powerful, and it was time for a fresh and new design. The redesign process was remarkably smooth, thanks to the synergy between our teams and already established relationships. I'm so proud of how the new website has turned out, and how well it will serve their members.
