Powerful Serves as Diamond Sponsor of NWPPA’s 2026 Northwest Innovations in Communications Conference in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON — Powerful, the web design, hosting, security, and support firm serving electric cooperatives, municipal utilities, public power districts, and broadband providers, proudly served as the Diamond Sponsor of the Northwest Public Power Association’s (NWPPA) 2026 Northwest Innovations in Communications Conference (NIC), held September 21st through 24th, 2026 in Walla Walla, Washington. The annual gathering is a signature event for the region’s public power and cooperative communicators, bringing together utility professionals from across the Pacific Northwest to sharpen their craft, share best practices, and strengthen the collective voice of consumer-owned utilities.

Powerful was represented at the conference by a four-person delegation: Charlie Stanley, CEO and Chief Web Solutions Architect; Caleigh Pickard, Website Solution Consultant; Beth Knudson, Success Strategist; and Stacey Horton, Project Manager. As Diamond Sponsor, Powerful hosted the Wednesday evening Awards Banquet and Entertainment, one of the marquee gatherings of the conference, honoring outstanding communications work from utilities across the Northwest.

Humanizing Your Website: A Post-Conference Deep Dive

In partnership with NWPPA, Powerful CEO Charlie Stanley facilitated the official post-conference class, “Humanizing Your Website: Writing, Accessibility, and the STAR Standard,” on the afternoon of Thursday, September 24. The workshop guided utility communicators through Powerful’s trademarked STAR Standard® methodology; a framework built on the principle that great utility content must be Searchable, Translatable, Accessible, and Responsive.

The session offered attendees a practical roadmap for turning technical utility content, rate structures, outage information, energy efficiency programs, board governance materials, and member service pages into approachable, human-centered communication that meets modern accessibility standards and actually gets read. Participants left with concrete tools for writing plainly, structuring content for search and translation, designing for the full range of members they serve, and ensuring their websites perform reliably on every device a member might reach for.

A Sponsor Community Built on Collaboration

Powerful was proud to be accompanied at NIC 2026 by a distinguished slate of fellow sponsors, several of whom Powerful has worked alongside in service of Northwest utilities for years. Gold Sponsor NISC (National Information Solutions Cooperative) is a long-time collaborator with whom Powerful has partnered on numerous cooperative technology integrations. Fellow Gold Sponsor PNGC Power, a Powerful client continues to be a leader in wholesale power services for consumer-owned utilities across the region. Silver Sponsor Energy Northwest, also a Powerful client, hosted the NWPPA Events mobile app that powered the conference experience.

The collaboration extended well beyond the sponsor list. 32 utility organizations that currently partner with Powerful for their website design, hosting, security, and support were in attendance at the conference; a striking reflection of Powerful’s deep footprint across NWPPA membership and of the trust Northwest utilities place in the Powerful team.

An Industry Cornerstone

“Being a meaningful contributor to the public power and cooperative communities isn’t a marketing strategy for us — it’s a cornerstone goal of the company,”
“NWPPA has built something genuinely special in the NIC Conference. Communicators at consumer-owned utilities carry an enormous responsibility — they translate complex energy issues for the members who literally own their utility, they show up during outages and storms, and they shape how communities understand their power supply. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with NISC, PNGC Power, Energy Northwest, and the other sponsors, and getting to spend four days learning from 32 of our own client organizations plus dozens of other utility communicators, is exactly the kind of industry involvement we’re committed to. We don’t sponsor conferences to be seen. We sponsor them to show up, contribute, and get better at serving this industry.”
— Charlie Stanley, CEO and Chief Web Solutions Architect, Powerful

Sustained Investment in the Utility Communications Profession

Powerful’s Diamond sponsorship of the 2026 NIC Conference reflects more than 25 years of focused work on behalf of consumer-owned utilities. With more than 400 civic and utility organizations served — including 300-plus utility websites — Powerful has built its business around the belief that the communicators at electric cooperatives, PUDs, and public power utilities deserve technology partners who understand their mission, their governance model, and the members they answer to.

That belief drives Powerful’s sustained investment in the industry: sponsorship of NWPPA and other statewide and national conferences, associate memberships across the association ecosystem, active participation in standards conversations around accessibility and cybersecurity, and hands-on educational programming like the STAR Standard® workshop delivered in Walla Walla. Meaningful industry involvement, not as a vendor booth but as a genuine contributor; remains a defining commitment of the Powerful team.
