Powerful Advances Union Power Cooperative’s Commitment to Exceptional Member Service with New Web Design
MONROE, NC — Powerful has completed a website redesign for Union Power Cooperative, creating a refreshed online resource that helps members reach essential information and services with fewer steps.
Union Power serves over 90,000 co-op member accounts across five North Carolina counties. The cooperative provides safe, reliable electric power and energy services while working to enhance the quality of life in the communities it serves. Its website redesign focused on intuitive navigation, a renewed visual direction and increased access to online tools that can help reduce routine phone calls and emails.
Powerful began the project with a Website UX Package that included a review of site analytics, heat map activity and feedback from Union Power’s internal team. The research showed that visitors frequently come to the co-op website to pay their bills or find outage information. It also identified mobile devices as the primary source of website traffic.
Those findings helped guide the homepage structure. Sign Up for Electric Service, Pay My Utility Bill, Member Login and Power Outages appear prominently near the top of the page. Additional navigation pathways connect visitors with billing information, safety resources, cooperative news and community programs.
“This was such a fun collaboration with the Union Power Cooperative team!” Powerful Project Manager Stacey Horton said. “By going the premium website design route, they were able to showcase their unique voice through playfully wavy graphic elements, unique background textures, and a script accent font that elevates the homepage headers.”
The homepage also features a video of Union Power employees and service territory. Additional sections highlight Operation Round Up, recent news, Carolina Country magazine and key cooperative statistics.
“This new look provides an instant sense of home for UPC members once they land on the homepage, welcomed by a beautiful video showcasing the cooperative and their great employees,” Horton said.
The redesigned website also includes a Capital Credits tool that allows members to search by name or address to determine whether they may have unclaimed capital credits. A visualized Capital Credits page explains allocations, retirements and annual margins through graphics, structured content and frequently asked questions. The page connects the tool with Members’ Economic Participation, one of the seven cooperative principles.
“As site visitors explore, they’ll continue to see their service territory represented through clear imagery and a captivating illustrated footer along the bottom of each page,” Horton said. “Overall, this site turned out beautifully and I couldn’t be more excited for the team to move into their new digital home!”
The redesigned website gives Union Power a flexible platform for sharing timely information and helping members complete common tasks online.
