Florida Keys Electric Cooperative Refreshes Its Website With Powerful
Tavernier, FL — The Florida Keys present a service territory unlike any other, with utility poles standing in the water and weather that can change quickly. Florida Keys Electric Cooperative’s new website is designed to support members across this one-of-a-kind environment.
Developed in partnership with Powerful, the refreshed website reflects how Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) serves its island communities every day. The site balances a modern look with practical tools, helping members quickly access essential information while reinforcing the cooperative’s connection to place. The launch marks FKEC’s second website project with Powerful, building on a trusted partnership shaped by collaboration and shared understanding of the cooperative’s unique service area.
“For their second website with Powerful, the FKEC team decided to go the premium route so they could stand out amongst the crowd with an innovative look and feel,” said Stacey Horton, project manager at Powerful. That decision shaped the overall approach, resulting in a site that balances a modern aesthetic with familiar elements tied to place.
Throughout the website, cool coastal tones and flowing wave elements subtly reflect the surrounding ocean and island landscape. A hero section video introduces visitors to the cooperative’s people, departments, and daily work, offering a window into how FKEC operates across its service area. “One of my favorite things about this project was the incorporation of waves and cool tones that paid tribute to their service territory surrounded by the ocean,” Horton said.
The homepage is organized around FKEC’s most important communication priorities. Storm resources, capital credits, and scam alerts are surfaced prominently, helping members quickly find information tied to preparedness, cooperative benefits, and personal safety. These sections support both everyday needs and time-sensitive situations, reinforcing the website as a reliable source of information for members.
The refreshed site also expands the use of online tools to support member interaction. Several applications, including solar and standby generator loan forms, are now available as online forms, allowing members to complete and submit requests directly through the website. Forms are securely routed to the appropriate staff members, helping streamline communication and reduce the need for follow-up calls or emails.
“These elements paired with the hero section video and illustrated footer will make any member feel at home,” Horton said. The custom illustrated footer features familiar scenes from the Keys, including mangroves, bridges, marine life, and utility lines rising from the water, reinforcing warmth and community connection.
“This site turned out beautifully, and I can’t wait to see how it serves the Florida Keys community for years to come,” Horton added.
