Ahead of the Curve: How Public Power’s Performance Standards Set the Bar for IOUs
Magen Howard is an executive communications and marketing leader with experience at every level of the electric cooperative industry. She has led communications and marketing initiatives at distribution electric co-ops in Kentucky and Ohio, at Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, the Ohio statewide association and G&T, at Arizona G&T Cooperatives, and at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
With a master’s degree in public relations and strategic communications and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Magen’s education and industry experience have uniquely equipped her to train, develop, and lead co-op communications teams, as well as offer educational presentations and workshops and serve as a liaison between associations and members.
In 2024, after more than 16 years in the electric cooperative industry, Magen decided to join forces with her husband, Genti Bardhi, and create HQB Consultants, an independent contracting firm specializing in supporting entrepreneurs, small businesses, nonprofits, and other nongovernmental organizations that cannot afford or don’t need a full-time communications and marketing employee.
While starting a family business was a longtime dream for Magen and Genti, Magen will never really leave behind her old friends and colleagues in the electric cooperative industry, which has enriched her personally and professionally and shaped her approach to doing business. She remains grateful for these ties and hopes to continue working with her industry pals as she launches this new chapter in her life and career.
