Overview

Connecting Rural Arkansas

Wave Rural Connect (Wave), powered by Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative, continues a legacy of innovation and service. Just as Arkansas Valley Electric brought electricity to homes across the River Valley, Wave is delivering fiber broadband that strengthens communities, supports growth, and creates new opportunities. To match this future-focused mission, Wave partnered with Powerful to redesign their website with three clear goals: increase the use of online tools to reduce phone and email inquiries, ensure accessibility compliance, and build a more engaging online experience. The redesign focused on anticipating common questions, simplifying decision-making, and ensuring every visitor could find what they needed quickly and confidently.

Turning Questions into Confident Decisions

For many households, the first question when considering internet service is simple but essential: “How much speed do I need?” Wave recognized this was a frequent driver of phone calls and emails. To anticipate this question and provide an answer immediately, Powerful strategically placed “How Much Speed Do I Need?” directly in the global navigation. This menu item leads to an interactive calculator that feels approachable. It walks visitors through simple questions: How many people are in the home? How many devices are used? Are those devices mainly for browsing, streaming, gaming, or remote work? The calculator uses conditional logic to turn those answers into a personalized internet plan recommendation.

This tool has an immediate impact. Members who might otherwise feel uncertain about which plan fits their household can now get clarity in minutes. Instead of calling the office or waiting for an email reply, they leave the site with confidence in their choice. For Wave, this means fewer repetitive inquiries and more time for staff to focus on higher-value support. For members, it means the freedom to make decisions on their own schedule.

Simplifying the Path to Connection

Once a visitor understands how much speed their household needs, the next step is choosing a plan. Powerful’s Rate Plans app makes this process simple. Residential internet options are displayed in a clean layout. Pricing, speeds, and plan details are separated into clear sections that are easy to scan. Each plan also includes FCC-compliant broadband labels. This gives visitors confidence that every detail is accurate and transparent.

The design emphasizes clarity. Bold headings and concise descriptions guide visitors through their choices. Moving from the calculator’s recommendation to exploring plan options feels like a natural step. The result is a process that empowers visitors to act with ease. Information is engaging and approachable. Members feel confident comparing their options and making decisions. For households across rural Arkansas, this clear path makes it simple to connect with the fiber internet that supports their daily lives.

Challenges

One of Wave’s core goals for their redesigned website was accessibility. At launch, Powerful delivered a site that met compliance standards and reflected current WCAG guidelines. The challenge didn’t stop there, though. Accessibility is not a one-time achievement—it requires ongoing care. As Wave’s team continues to add content, update pages, and adjust features, they carry the responsibility of ensuring that the site remains accessible to every visitor, regardless of ability.

This posed an important consideration for Wave's staff. How could they feel confident making future edits while knowing their site would remain compliant? For a team managing a dynamic website with evolving needs, it was essential to build both knowledge and confidence.

Solutions

To prepare Wave for long-term success, Powerful provided an Accessibility Consulting and Training session tailored to their site and goals. This in-depth webinar introduced Wave’s team to practical tools and clear strategies for maintaining accessibility. The training broke down WCAG best practices into actionable steps, from writing descriptive alt text to structuring headings for clarity.

The training also highlighted common scenarios that Wave might encounter in the future. Adding images, embedding documents, or updating navigation can all introduce accessibility concerns if not done carefully. By walking through these real-life examples, Powerful’s trusted web experts equipped Wave’s staff with the ability to recognize potential issues early and resolve them effectively.

Results

Wave now holds the “keys to the castle” with the knowledge of how to protect accessibility as a long-term priority. The training session gave them a foundation to make decisions with accessibility in mind, ensuring that updates don’t inadvertently create barriers. This investment in training reinforces Wave’s commitment to serving all members of their community with both reliable broadband and an equally reliable digital experience.

The Wave team came to the table with a clear goal to have a website that maximizes website visitor engagement while focusing on accessibility. The promotional-based blueprint provides dedicated space on the homepage for Wave to spotlight packages and services, as well as increase the use of online tools. With defined goals and a stunning color palette, this site turned out beautifully!
