Driving Participation Through a Dedicated Event Microsite
The Washington Electric Cooperatives Political Action Committee (WECPAC) is no stranger to engaging its members and supporters through advocacy and tradition. One of its cornerstone events—the annual John Irwin Memorial Golf Tournament—celebrates community, legacy, and support for cooperative-friendly public policy. WECPAC partnered with Powerful to create a standalone microsite that would simplify event participation while showcasing sponsorship opportunities in a clear, compelling format. The goal? Streamline the visitor experience and make it easier than ever to get involved.
One Link, All the Details
With the creation of a dedicated microsite, WECPAC no longer has to rely on emails, attachments, or multiple pages to communicate key event information. The new landing page offers a clean, mobile-friendly layout that walks visitors through everything they need to know—date and location, course details, pricing, sponsorship packages, and who to contact for questions.
The content is broken into intuitive sections, complemented by golf-themed visuals and callouts that highlight the tournament’s legacy. Each section transitions smoothly into the next, guiding visitors from general interest to action. Whether someone is a returning sponsor or a first-time player, the microsite answers questions before visitors even need to ask them. This structure reduces confusion and back-and-forth inquiries.
Payments, Simplified
To simplify the registration process and eliminate the need for manual payment processing, Powerful integrated Authorize.net into the online form. Now, visitors can register and pay for the event securely and directly through the microsite.
The form walks visitors through key decisions step-by-step: Will they be playing? How many players? Which sponsorship, if any, would they like to claim? As selections are made, the form automatically calculates the total. At checkout, a secure card entry field—powered by Authorize.net—lets them pay right away, without leaving the page. The ability to pay online removes barriers, speeds up registration, and gives the process a more polished, professional feel. Visitors can complete everything in one visit, and organizers spend less time managing incomplete forms or delayed payments.
Built-In Trust That Supports Action
While payment processing is handled through Authorize.net, all registration data—like contact information, player names, and sponsorship selections—is collected and stored within Powerful’s backend. This gives WECPAC easy access to the information they need to track participation and plan ahead.
In addition to streamlining the visitor experience, integrating payments into the form also adds a level of trust and convenience that today’s audiences expect. Visitors don’t have to navigate away from the site or wonder if their payment went through—everything happens in one cohesive flow. The use of Authorize.net, a widely recognized and secure payment platform, reinforces credibility and reassures participants that their information is protected. This ease of use makes registration more approachable for all types of visitors—whether they’re long-time supporters or signing up for the first time—helping WECPAC make a strong digital impression that matches the professionalism of the event itself.
Challenges
As WECPAC worked to increase the use of online tools for event coordination, one of the key goals for the John Irwin Memorial Golf Tournament microsite was to create a more efficient way to manage sponsorship signups. With limited quantities available for certain sponsorship tiers, it was important that the registration form reflect real-time availability to prevent duplicate purchases. Manually tracking inventory during a rush of signups can create unnecessary stress for organizers and confusion for visitors. The challenge was finding a way to show what was available—and what wasn’t—without relying on constant oversight. WECPAC needed a solution that would keep the process simple and accurate, allowing them to focus on planning the event rather than monitoring registration details hour by hour.
Solutions
To solve this, Powerful’s team built custom logic into the online form, allowing the site to automatically track and manage sponsorship inventory. As options are selected and submitted, the form dynamically updates to show what’s still available. If a sponsorship tier is filled, it’s crossed off with a clear red “sold out” message, preventing additional signups while maintaining transparency for visitors browsing the options. This solution keeps the form current without manual edits, and the real-time visibility helps visitors make informed decisions without delay. It’s an approach designed to work quietly in the background—no spreadsheets, no second-guessing, just a reliable way to guide participants through the registration process.
Results
With the automated system in place, WECPAC’s team can confidently promote sponsorships knowing the form reflects what’s still open. There’s no need to double-check availability or worry about backtracking if a sponsorship is accidentally oversold. The system helps streamline behind-the-scenes coordination and gives organizers more time to focus on event logistics and outreach.Visitors benefit from the clarity too. The clear “sold out” markers and responsive form layout make it easy to see what’s available at a glance, which helps reduce hesitation and speeds up the decision-making process. While the microsite may look simple on the surface, it’s packed with small efficiencies that add up to a smoother experience for both staff and participants.

A lot of work goes into making an event like this successful, and it’s often the behind-the-scenes details that make the biggest difference. It’s been great to see how this microsite helps ease the workload for WECPAC’s team and creates a more seamless experience for participants. I'm happy to see a microsite like this help drive such a meaningful event forward.
