Overview
Energizing Member Support
Talquin Electric Cooperative’s mission is centered on safety, reliability, and efficiency—values that extend beyond their operations and into every member interaction, including their online presence. With a growing number of visitors turning to their website for answers, Talquin saw an opportunity to improve how those interactions were delivered.
To meet that challenge, they partnered with Powerful to create a modern, easy-to-navigate site that reflects their commitment to continuous improvement. Their goals were clear: provide intuitive navigation, feature timely content, and increase the use of online tools to reduce phone calls and emails—all while keeping the member experience front and center.
Turning High-Traffic Pages Into High-Impact Tools
Talquin set out to reduce the number of phone calls and emails their Member Services team received by encouraging more self-service through the website. To achieve that, Powerful focused on enhancing some of the most frequently visited pages with visualized designs that help visitors find what they need at a glance.
One of the most impactful examples is the Outage Center. When the power goes out, visitors don’t want to scroll through long paragraphs—they want clear, actionable options. The Outage Center was redesigned with that urgency in mind. Step-by-step icons, bold headings, and color-blocked sections guide visitors through how to report an outage online, through the app, by text, or by phone. The visualized page removes the guesswork and allows someone to quickly understand their options, reducing the need to contact Member Services directly during what’s often a stressful time.
Talquin also saw benefits from visualizing other frequently visited pages, including Ways to Pay and Hurricane Preparedness. These are common areas where questions arise, especially during storm season or billing cycles. Instead of lengthy descriptions, these pages now feature bite-sized content blocks with visuals and direct action buttons—making it easier for visitors to quickly find the method that fits their needs. Strategically visualizing these pages has made the website feel more intuitive, helping Talquin meet their goal of cutting down on support calls and emails.
Keeping Content Current with The Current
While visualized pages helped streamline high-traffic topics, Talquin also wanted to ensure the rest of their website stayed just as active and engaging. That meant regularly updating the site with timely, relevant content that reflects what’s happening across the cooperative. Regular communication plays a big role in keeping members informed– and their bi-monthly newsletter, The Current, is central to that effort.
To make the most of this resource, Talquin opted into Powerful’s Repurpose Print Content for Web service. Every other month, The Current is transformed from a static PDF into engaging web content using Powerful’s News Releases app. This tool gives visitors an intuitive way to explore articles directly on the site.
Rather than requiring visitors to download a file or zoom in to read small text, articles are now organized in a clean format with headlines, previews, and responsive layouts that work seamlessly across all devices. This approach aligns with Powerful’s STAR Standard, ensuring all content is searchable, translatable, accessible, and responsive. Members can find stories more easily, translate them into their preferred language, and read them on any screen—with or without assistive technology.
Bringing their newsletter content online is a simple but powerful way to deliver high member value through content that informs, engages, and builds trust.
Challenges
Talquin Electric Cooperative serves a diverse member base with a wide range of services-- including electric, water, and wastewater. That variety adds complexity to their digital needs. Each service comes with its own set of resources, processes, and frequently asked questions. As more members turn to the website to find answers and complete tasks, Talquin saw the importance of creating an online experience that organized these services clearly.Their goal was to guide visitors to the right place without confusion or extra clicks. That meant rethinking how information was displayed, and designing an experience that felt intuitive from the moment a visitor landed on the homepage.
Solutions
To bring clarity to Talquin’s wide range of offerings, Powerful implemented the Laurelhurst promotional blueprint-- a homepage design known for its flexibility and ability to spotlight key services in a clean, engaging format. This layout features a series of promotional sections, each with a bold headline, supportive imagery, a short blurb of text, and a button linking to an internal page with more information. The design makes it easy to communicate important topics while keeping the homepage visually cohesive. This blueprint is especially valuable for a utility like Talquin that offers more than just electric service. Whether it’s highlighting outage preparation, promoting water conservation tips, or reminding members about energy efficiency programs, these promotional sections can be updated seasonally to align with current needs. During hurricane season, for example, the homepage can emphasize storm preparedness. In winter, it can shift to focus on billing assistance or rate education. Each section creates space to communicate clearly without overcrowding the page-- ensuring every message has room to breathe and every service gets the spotlight it deserves.
Results
This approach gives Talquin the flexibility to keep their homepage fresh and relevant year-round, while also reinforcing the full scope of services they offer. Rather than trying to pack everything into a single message, the promotional layout allows them to elevate different programs and topics as priorities shift throughout the year. The result is a homepage that feels both organized and dynamic. Visitors are met with timely, service-focused content that’s easy to skim and click into, helping them better understand what Talquin offers and how to take advantage of it. By using the Laurelhurst blueprint to support rotating promotions, Talquin’s website becomes more than just a hub for information; it becomes an evolving resource that reflects their ongoing commitment to high-quality service across electric, water, and wastewater utilities.

As a large electric co-op that also provides water and sewer services, a great website is key for their members. With goals of increasing online tools to reduce member contacts and an easy to navigate design, the Talquin team brought the best of both worlds together on their redesign. The promotional-based blueprint allows for dedicated spaces to highlight both electric and water resources for their members, while making sure relevant and up-to-date information is front and center. This was such a fun project and I am excited to see how the Talquin team maximizes their refreshed communication platform.
