Overview

SSVEC’s Microsite for Rate Adjustments

Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC), a member-owned utility cooperative, is deeply committed to serving the needs of its community. As part of their mission to remain transparent and foster trust, SSVEC partnered with Powerful to design a microsite that clearly explains their rate adjustments. The primary goal was to create a visitor-friendly platform where members could access up-to-date information about the reasons behind these changes. By proactively sharing this information, SSVEC reaffirms its dedication to keeping its members informed and involved.

Clear Communication for Cooperative Members

As a cooperative, SSVEC is owned by the very people it serves, meaning their decisions directly impact their members. Rate adjustments can often raise questions, but SSVEC wanted to ensure their members were never left wondering. Powerful worked with SSVEC to design a microsite that breaks down complex information into easy-to-understand content. The site features a clean layout and intuitive navigation, helping members quickly find the answers they need. This approach reflects SSVEC’s community-first values, demonstrating care and accountability to their members.

Amplifying the Message

The microsite goes beyond explanations. It features a prominent message from CEO Jason Bowling, addressing members directly. This humanizes SSVEC and underscores their transparency and dedication to its community. A video presentation further reinforces this message, offering members a chance to hear directly from leadership about the changes and their necessity. The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section complements these efforts, answering concerns proactively. These design elements make the microsite a model of effective communication, ensuring that all members—regardless of their technical expertise—can easily navigate and access the information they need.

By combining straightforward design with a community-centered approach, the microsite bridges the gap between technical rate details and member understanding. This strengthens the bond between SSVEC and its members while showcasing how they actively follow the cooperative principles.

One of the standout features of the microsite is its ability to break down complex topics into digestible, member-friendly content. The section detailing the “Top 3 Reasons Why SSVEC is Updating Rates” uses clear visuals and simple language to highlight key points like rising costs and fairness for all members. Each reason is paired with a brief explanation, ensuring visitors can quickly grasp the rationale. This clarity reinforces SSVEC’s goal of being transparent and accessible to their members.

The microsite also organizes regulatory filings and notices in a dedicated section, making critical documents easy to find. With quick links to filings and applications, members can access these resources with minimal effort. This visitor-friendly design ensures members stay informed and engaged while maintaining a community-focused tone.

Community-Centered Design for Long-Term Impact

From highlighting the team’s dedication to maintaining reliable service to ensuring all voices are heard, every element of the site supports their mission. Features like quick links to regulatory filings and notices, a clear call-to-action button leading to detailed explanations, and intuitive navigation make the site both functional and engaging.

By meeting its goals of clear communication and transparency, SSVEC’s microsite sets a standard for how cooperatives can approach sensitive topics with integrity and respect for their members. It’s not just a website—it’s a bridge that connects SSVEC with the community it serves.

Challenges

Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) wanted to ensure its members fully understood the reasoning behind their recent rate adjustments. As a cooperative owned by the very communities it serves, transparency and accessibility were essential to maintain trust and foster open communication. However, rate adjustments are a sensitive topic, and the intricacies of the decision—rising operational costs, fairness across member types, and aligning with the true cost of service—required more context than a general notice on their main website could provide. SSVEC needed a targeted approach—one that focused solely on the rate adjustments and communicated the rationale clearly, thoughtfully, and without overwhelming the audience.

Solutions

To meet this need, SSVEC partnered with Powerful to create a dedicated microsite designed exclusively to communicate their rate case. This separate platform ensures the rate adjustment details receive the undivided attention they deserve. The microsite was built with intentionality, featuring a clean and intuitive design that breaks down complex information into easy-to-digest sections. Members are welcomed with a visually engaging homepage that highlights the key purpose of the site: to explain the reasons behind the rate adjustments and offer clear, actionable insights. By keeping the microsite independent from SSVEC’s primary website, the cooperative created a focused and distraction-free environment. The microsite serves as a centralized hub for all rate adjustment-related resources. This approach allows members to navigate the content seamlessly without confusion. Every design element—from the organized structure to the cohesive branding—reinforces SSVEC’s dedication to serving its members with clarity and care.

Results

The decision to create a standalone microsite delivered several key benefits to SSVEC and its members. First, the microsite enables SSVEC to tailor the content specifically to the topic of rate adjustments, offering a streamlined experience that ensures every visitor finds exactly what they need. The focused structure eliminates the potential for information to be buried under unrelated content, demonstrating SSVEC’s respect for its members’ time and their need for clarity. By organizing the content into accessible sections like the CEO message, FAQs, and top reasons for the changes, the microsite ensures even complex topics are presented in a way that feels approachable and member-centric.

The impact of the microsite goes beyond simply sharing information—it strengthens the connection between SSVEC and its members. By dedicating a separate platform to rate adjustments, SSVEC sends a clear message: they care deeply about transparency and want their members to feel informed and empowered. This thoughtful approach reinforces trust and ensures that even challenging conversations, like those surrounding rate changes, are handled with care and professionalism. The microsite stands as a shining example of how SSVEC continues to prioritize its members and embody the values of a cooperative built by the people it serves.

When it comes rate adjustments, clear communication is key to ensure members have accessible information. It was a pleasure to work with the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Co-op team to create a clean microsite with clear information on the rate adjustment. From telling the story behind the adjustment, to a series of FAQs, to all the legal documents and timelines, SSVEC members can get all information in one place that is easy to navigate.
