Overview

About

Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative maintains over 7,900 miles of electric lines and serves over 97,000 meters across multiple counties in Virginia. In alignment with the cooperative principles, SVEC works hard to provide reliable and safe electric services to its community. To exceed customer expectations, SVEC partnered with Powerful to create a functional, modern, and up-to-date website.

Cooperative Pride

SVEC stands out from other power companies because of their not-for-profit business model. As a member-owned utility, SVEC gives members a seat at the table. By empowering members to have a voice in the leadership and direction of the cooperative, SVEC fosters a sense of community through a shared vision of the cooperative.

Since the start of the redesign process, SVEC and Powerful have made member satisfaction a top priority. To provide exceptional service for SVEC’s valued members, Powerful’s team of trusted web experts strategized a website design that anticipates and surpasses member needs.

Website Speed Optimization

In the event of an outage or other emergency, most SVEC members immediately turn to SVEC’s website for information. With sudden high volumes of website traffic, a slow website may experience crashes and outages on the website itself. To avoid member frustrations in times of emergency, Powerful optimized SVEC’s website to ensure rapid response times that handle increased traffic.

With fast load times, SVEC’s new website provides a streamlined interface that helps facilitate timely reporting in times of urgency.

Challenges

With over 97,000 members, Shenandoah Valley Electric's website did not cater to its large service territory. In the event of an outage, the website's slow load time made it more difficult for members to report outages or access important information, causing frustration among members. Shenandoah Valley Electric's new website needed to be optimized to provide members with timely and reliable information.

Solutions

To serve a large volume of members effectively in a crisis, Shenandoah Valley Electric's website was optimized to have faster load times. Powerful reduced image file sizes, utilized a reliable hosting provider, and enabled browser caching. These optimization techniques minimize any strain when website traffic spikes to high numbers during an outage.

Results

In the event of an outage, Shenandoah Valley Electric's new website serves as a reliable resource. In times of emergency, members can quickly access important information. As a result of an optimized website, members gain trust in their cooperative.

I am thrilled to see the member-focused website for Shenandoah Electric Cooperative come to life! As the solution architect for the website design, I greatly appreciated how intentional Preston and Ashley were throughout the process. Their commitment to creating a task-oriented website that meets the needs of the Cooperative's members was truly inspiring and made this project all the more exciting for our team.
