Overview

Supporting the People Behind the Service

The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Yazoo City provides safe electric, water, and sewer services while building strong working relationships between customers and employees. To strengthen their internal operations, PSC of Yazoo City partnered with Powerful with three clear goals: increase the use of online tools, feature relevant and up-to-date content, and create easy, intuitive navigation that supports daily work.

After collaborating with Powerful on their public-facing website, PSC of Yazoo City partnered again to launch their first-ever intranet. This milestone supports their team of 40 employees by bringing essential resources into one central location. The new platform improves internal communication and supports more efficient workflows without disrupting established routines. It reflects a thoughtful investment in keeping staff connected, informed, and supported.

A Clear Path to Everyday Resources

As PSC of Yazoo City prepared to introduce their first intranet, easy navigation and intuitive design were essential. Employees access forms, documents, policies, and internal resources throughout the day. The platform needed to feel approachable from the first visit. This was especially important for a new internal tool that staff would be learning for the first time.

Powerful implemented the Tabor blueprint, which places a strong emphasis on search as a supporting feature. A prominent search bar is featured on the homepage, giving employees an efficient way to locate information as needed. To further guide employees, the search experience highlights common items such as downloading a form, accessing the employee handbook, or reviewing benefits.

The search-focused blueprint complements a clear menu and focused call-to-action buttons that point to highly sought resources. Together, these elements create a dependable experience that helps employees move through the site with confidence. Over time, the intranet becomes familiar and reliable, supporting daily work without adding complexity.

Enhancing Workflows Without Disruption

As PSC of Yazoo City looked to increase the use of online tools, it was important to recognize that daily workflows vary from role to role. Each employee approaches their work a little differently, shaped by responsibilities, experience, and routine. The intranet needed to support those differences rather than replace them, offering tools that feel helpful instead of intrusive.

To support this goal, Powerful integrated an online Suggestion Box Form directly into the intranet. The form provides a straightforward way for employees to share ideas, feedback, and opportunities for improvement. It is easy to access and simple to complete, allowing staff to contribute input at anytime.

This approach helps ensure that employees across all departments feel seen and heard. The form supports ongoing improvement and helps the intranet serve as a practical extension of everyday work at PSC of Yazoo City. It creates a shared space that encourages collaboration and keeps employees actively engaged.

Challenges

For PSC of Yazoo City, internal communication needed to keep pace with an active, service-driven organization. Employees rely on timely updates to stay informed about meetings, schedule changes, events, and shared milestones. The challenge was creating an intranet experience where important information stays visible and relevant, rather than getting buried or overlooked as days pass.

There was also a need to make the intranet feel worth returning to. Static content can quickly fade into the background, even when it is well organized. PSC of Yazoo City wanted their intranet to reflect what is happening now, helping employees feel informed, included, and connected to the work happening across the organization.

Solutions

Powerful supported PSC of Yazoo City’s goal of keeping content current by featuring the News Releases and Calendar & Events web apps on the intranet homepage. The News Releases app displays the three most recent posts, giving the Yazoo team an easy way to share timely updates such as event recaps, department highlights, announcements, and more. These updates help employees stay in the loop.

The Calendar & Events app complements this by highlighting what is coming up next. The Yazoo team can share upcoming meetings, office closures, training sessions, deadlines, safety briefings, and internal events. Together, these tools provide a steady flow of information that keeps employees informed without requiring extra emails or reminders. Employees can quickly check the intranet to see recent updates and upcoming items, supporting awareness and alignment across the team.

Results

With news and events consistently updated, the intranet serves as a dependable bulletin board for PSC of Yazoo City. Employees know where to look for announcements, schedules, and important updates, which supports clear communication across the organization. Having one trusted place for information helps the team stay informed and focused on their work.

This consistency strengthens the workforce as a whole. Employees can rely on the intranet as a reference point they return to throughout the week. Current content supports involvement, reinforces connection across departments, and helps the PSC of Yazoo City team move forward together.

An intranet is such a powerful tool to increase employee engagement. The team at the PSC of Yazoo City strategically built their first-ever intranet with their employees top of mind, ensuring relevant information and resources were easy to find and access.
