A Continued Commitment to Keeping Rural Communities Connected

Plumas-Sierra Telecommunications (PST), the telecommunications subsidiary of Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative, has been rooted in a simple, steady mission: keep rural communities connected with reliable, fairly priced services that meet real needs. PST operates with a local, member-driven mindset shaped by practical decisions and long-term thinking. From early satellite TV offerings to building a regional fiber backbone, PST has consistently stepped in where larger providers often fall short.

As PST’s services and infrastructure continue to expand, so does the need for clear, accessible communication with the communities they serve. Building on a trusted partnership, PST turned to Powerful once again to redesign their website with a focused set of goals: increase engagement, guide more visitors toward online tools, and represent the forward-thinking approach that defines their work. This new website supports those efforts by creating a streamlined, intuitive experience that helps visitors take action with confidence while reinforcing PST’s role as a reliable, community-first provider.

Turning Complex Rate Details Into Clear Decisions

For a telecommunications provider serving a wide and varied rural region, one of the most common points of friction comes down to understanding service options. PST recognized the opportunity to make plan details easier to navigate so visitors could find what fits their needs without needing to call or email for clarification.

To support this goal, Powerful implemented the Rate Plans web app, a structured and highly visual way to present PST’s broadband offerings. Residential and business plans are organized into clear, scannable sections, with each plan displaying monthly pricing, key features, and detailed Broadband Facts. Visitors can quickly compare options side by side, with expandable sections that provide deeper context without overwhelming the page.

A key component of this experience is the inclusion of FCC-compliant Broadband Labels. These standardized labels present essential details such as speeds, pricing, and additional charges in a consistent format, giving visitors confidence in what they are reviewing. This level of transparency aligns directly with PST’s mission of providing fair and reasonable services while keeping the community informed.

Behind the scenes, the Rate Plans app allows PST’s team to maintain accuracy with ease. Plan updates, pricing adjustments, or service changes can be managed directly through the backend, ensuring that information stays current without requiring extensive manual updates. The result is a reliable, always up-to-date resource that reduces the need for direct inquiries while empowering visitors to make informed decisions on their own. In a region where connectivity is essential, having clear, accessible information readily available supports PST’s broader goal of keeping communities connected and informed.

A Simple Path to Start Service

As PST continues to expand fiber and wireless services across the region, attracting and engaging new customers remains a key priority. Whether someone is moving to the area or exploring improved connectivity options, the process of getting started should feel straightforward and approachable.

To support this, Powerful implemented an intuitive Service Sign-Up form that gives visitors a direct path to express interest in establishing service. The online form walks through essential details such as contact information, service address, and the type of service needed in a clean, easy-to-follow layout. Each section is organized in a way that feels familiar, helping visitors move through the process with confidence.

This approach also brings consistency to PST’s internal workflow. Each submission arrives with complete and organized information, making it easier for the team to respond quickly and move the process forward. Instead of piecing together details from phone calls or scattered emails, PST can focus on timely follow-up and service coordination.

The impact shows up in both engagement and efficiency. A visitor can land on the site, understand their options, and take the next step in one sitting. For PST, that means fewer incoming calls for basic questions and more meaningful interactions centered on getting people connected. It is a simple shift that supports their mission in a real way by helping more homes, businesses, and neighbors gain access to reliable service.

Challenges

PST wanted its website to reflect the same level of care and progress that defines its services. As a provider that has steadily expanded infrastructure and brought connectivity to rural communities, there was an opportunity to present that work through a refreshed, modern lens. The goal was to create a site that felt current, inviting, and representative of the role PST plays across the region.

The site also needed to guide visitors toward key actions in a way that felt intuitive. PST serves a wide audience, from long-time residents to those new to the area, each with different needs and varying familiarity with broadband services. Helping visitors quickly understand where to go and what to do next was an important focus.

Solutions

Powerful introduced the Sunnybrook promotional blueprint to support these goals, creating a homepage that highlights services while guiding visitors through the site with purpose. The design opens with a curved hero section that immediately draws attention, paired with strong messaging and prominent call-to-action buttons that invite visitors to get started right away.

Promotional sections further support PST’s goals by drawing attention to key offerings and ongoing communication efforts. The “Ultimate WiFi Experience” section highlights broadband services with focused messaging and strong visuals that help visitors understand what sets PST apart. "The Telecom Quarterly" section introduces timely updates and community-focused content, keeping the homepage active and relevant. These sections create natural points of interest throughout the page, encouraging visitors to stay engaged while learning more about PST’s services and role in the community.

Sections like testimonials and “By the Numbers” add depth to the homepage. Customer feedback brings in real perspectives from the community, helping visitors see the value of PST’s services through familiar voices. The “By the Numbers” section complements this by presenting key metrics in a simple, visual format, giving a quick sense of PST’s reach and presence across the region. Together, these elements reinforce trust while keeping the experience engaging and easy to move through.

Results

The redesigned website presents PST in a way that reflects both its roots and its direction. From the first interaction, visitors are met with a layout that highlights services, communicates value, and encourages action. Key pathways are easy to identify, helping visitors move through the site with confidence.

The overall design supports PST’s goal of representing itself as modern and forward thinking. Visual structure, focused messaging, and thoughtfully placed content sections work together to create a site that feels current while staying grounded in the community it serves. Each element contributes to a stronger, more cohesive presence that aligns with the level of service PST provides across the region.

This approach strengthens engagement across the site. Visitors are more likely to explore services, interact with content, and take the next step, whether that means checking availability or learning more about what PST offers. The result is a website that supports PST’s continued growth.

As is the case with several telecommunications subsidiaries, PST needed a website that highlighted their unique service offerings so they could stand out in an already competitive industry. To do that, they decided to utilize visualized pages for each of their service offerings which helps make the information feel more engaging through icons, unique layouts, and micro animations. In addition to these, the homepage provides easy access for members to check their availability and evaluate other people’s experiences through the testimonials section. Overall, this new site provides a playful, yet informative space for new and returning site visitors alike and I’m looking forward to seeing how it continues to grow!
