Overview

A Website That’s Truly MidSouth

For over 80 years, MidSouth Electric Cooperative has delivered essential services to rural Texas communities—from powering homes and businesses to expanding into fiber internet, water, and solar. As their offerings grew, so did their need for a modern digital presence. MidSouth partnered with Powerful to create a new website that reflects their full-service identity, simplifies member interactions, and showcases their commitment to clear communication. The goals were straightforward: reduce phone calls and emails by increasing use of online tools, keep content fresh and accessible, and make navigation intuitive for every visitor.

Premium Design, Purpose-Built

With a premium design, MidSouth had the creative flexibility to make every part of their new website purposeful—and unmistakably theirs. From the start, they collaborated closely with Powerful’s team to ensure the design aligned with their mission to provide quality services.

MidSouth’s homepage reflects thoughtful choices that guide members exactly where they need to go. Top-priority services like online bill pay and MidSouth Fiber are featured prominently, helping reduce confusion and eliminate unnecessary steps. That clarity has a ripple effect: fewer phone calls, more completed tasks, and a smoother experience for members and staff alike.

What truly sets the design apart is how customized it is to MidSouth’s voice and identity. It’s a one-of-a-kind digital reflection of who they are and how they serve. The content, colors, and layout were tailored to reinforce trust, approachability, and professionalism—values that have guided the co-op for over 80 years. It’s a site that feels modern, but still personal. Local, but polished. Functional, but never generic.

A Footer that Feels Like Home

That commitment to authenticity carries all the way to the bottom of the page—where MidSouth’s custom illustrated footer sets their website apart in a way no template ever could. More than just a design element, the footer is a visual story that captures the spirit of the region and the people MidSouth serves.

The illustration features familiar scenes and symbols. A MidSouth bucket truck and electric vehicle represent progress and service. The co-op’s office building anchors their presence in the community. Local touches like a rodeo cowboy, football field, and livestock add personality and pride, painting a picture of life in rural Texas that members recognize and connect with. Even the land itself—pastures, trees, and grazing animals—serves as a reminder of the co-op’s deep local roots.

This level of detail reinforces the cooperative difference. MidSouth isn’t a corporate utility. It’s run by neighbors, shaped by the values of the people it serves, and dedicated to the well-being of its community. The illustrated footer tells that story without a single word, giving every visitor a quiet but powerful reminder of who’s behind the services they rely on.

It also leaves a lasting impression. Whether a visitor comes to the site to pay a bill, explore internet options, or find outage information, they leave with a sense of place—and a stronger connection to their co-op. The footer may sit at the bottom of the page, but its impact reaches far beyond.

Challenges

As MidSouth expanded its services to include more energy efficiency offerings, it became increasingly important to provide members with clear, convenient ways to take part. Programs like the New Home Rebate, Energy Efficiency Rewards, and Residential Solar Application offered meaningful benefits—but participating often required extra steps. Many of the applications were available only as downloadable PDFs, which meant members had to print, complete, and return them manually.

While this format got the job done, it added friction to the process—especially for members on mobile devices or those looking to complete tasks quickly. Even with clear program details, the extra effort required could discourage participation or cause delays. MidSouth recognized the need for a more accessible, streamlined approach that matched the ease and clarity of the rest of their redesigned site.

Solutions

MidSouth partnered with Powerful to turn those static PDFs into easy-to-use online forms. Each form was built with clarity and simplicity in mind—designed to guide members through every required field without confusion. Members can now apply for rebates, submit supporting materials, and review eligibility criteria—all in one place, without ever leaving the site.

The forms are optimized for desktop and mobile use, making them accessible whether a member is at home or on the go. Behind the scenes, each submission is automatically routed to the appropriate internal team, saving staff time and reducing the risk of misrouted paperwork. By embedding these forms directly into the new site structure, MidSouth removed unnecessary steps and made it easier for members to take action the moment they’re ready.

Results

The transition to online forms has helped MidSouth strengthen its connection with members by removing barriers that previously stood in the way of participation. Tasks that once required downloading, printing, or scanning can now be completed in just a few minutes—whether someone is sitting at a desktop or using their phone. This ease of access encourages more members to take advantage of valuable programs, from solar support to energy efficiency rebates.

Working with the MidSouth Communications Team to bring their goals to life was so fun! As a co-op with a strong brand and clear communication goals, their new premium website exemplifies their mission to serve their members on the digital font. The new site is easy to navigate, putting common member tasks front and center. This Texas gal is truly proud of their new site!
