Overview

Local Power, Modern Connection

For Heber Light & Power, reliable service starts with the community it serves. The company provides energy to nearly 16,000 customers throughout Heber Valley while planning ahead for growth, infrastructure needs and responsible energy solutions. That same future-focused mindset guided its website redesign with Powerful. Heber Light & Power wanted a website that felt modern, easy to navigate and ready to support current content, while still reflecting its identity as a community-owned utility. The redesigned site gives customers a more direct path to the information they look for most, including service resources, outage updates, public meeting materials, news and energy efficiency programs.

Professional, Recognizable & Functional by Design

Heber Light & Power wanted its website to look current without losing the local character customers recognize. During the early design strategy session, its team identified three guiding words for the project: professional, recognizable and functional. Those words gave Powerful’s team a strong creative direction for a premium design that could feel polished, practical and closely connected to Heber Valley.

Through Powerful’s Premium Design Package, Heber Light & Power and Powerful’s trusted web experts worked together to shape a design distinctly their own. The red, white and blue palette ties back to the Heber Light & Power logo, creating a consistent brand presence across the site. Large mountain images immediately place the website in Heber Valley, while the rounded photo frames and curved section breaks add personality without distracting from the content. The result feels familiar at first glance.

The homepage gives Heber Light & Power a practical place to highlight what customers may need most. Call-to-action buttons near the top point visitors to Documents & Policies, Apply for Service, Net Metering, Construction Process and Outages. Below those quick paths, Heber Light & Power can feature timely priorities such as energy efficiency programs, residential rate information and outage resources. The page also brings attention to upcoming meetings, recent news and a “By the Numbers” snapshot with details like years in operation, customers served, new customers from the past year, employees and square miles served.

This design helps Heber Light & Power present itself as a modern, forward-thinking public power provider while still feeling grounded in the community it serves. The homepage gives important updates a natural place to live, whether the message is tied to programs, rates, outages, meetings or local news. That flexibility matters for an organization planning ahead for growth, infrastructure needs and evolving customer expectations throughout Heber Valley.

Current Content That Keeps Customers Connected

Keeping website content current was one of Heber Light & Power’s primary goals for the redesign. As a utility serving a growing community, the organization regularly shares updates related to board meetings, policies, projects, programs and other important information. The new website gives staff straightforward tools to keep content organized and up to date, helping customers find accurate information without relying on outdated documents or announcements.

Powerful’s Calendar & Events web app gives Heber Light & Power a simple way to share upcoming meetings and important dates. On the homepage, event cards display the date, title and key details at a glance. On the Meetings & Agendas page, the next board meeting appears in a larger format with the meeting date, time, location and category label. A customer hoping to attend the June 2026 Board Meeting, for example, can quickly see that it is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the Heber Light & Power office.

Plans change, though. A customer may intend to attend a meeting, then miss it due to an unexpected conflict. Powerful’s Agendas & Minutes web app helps fill that gap by giving visitors a central place to review past meeting materials. The Meetings & Agendas page displays board meetings in a simple table with the date, title, time, location, minutes, packet and media. Clear icons guide visitors to supporting materials, including meeting minutes, board packets and linked YouTube recordings.

Together, these web apps support Heber Light & Power’s goal of maintaining current, accessible content across its website. Staff can efficiently publish updates as information becomes available, while customers benefit from a reliable source for the latest meeting details, documents and community information. The result is a website that stays active, informative and aligned with Heber Light & Power’s commitment to transparent communication.

Challenges

Billing information is one of the most visited areas of a utility website, especially when customers have questions about payments, account tools or charges on their bill. For Heber Light & Power, pages like Billing & Payments and Understanding Your Bill carry a wide range of helpful details, from payment methods and SmartHub access to paperless billing, auto payment, budget billing and line-by-line bill explanations.

Heber Light & Power wanted these high-traffic pages to support easy navigation and intuitive design. A customer visiting the Billing & Payments page may need to pay online, learn about phone payments, find office payment details or compare billing options. Another customer may visit the Understanding Your Bill page to make sense of meter readings, usage comparisons, service fees or charges. Each page needed to guide visitors through important account information without making them dig through dense content.

Solutions

Powerful and Heber Light & Power collaborated closely on content strategy to determine which pages would benefit most from visualization. Together, they identified Billing & Payments and Understanding Your Bill as two key pages where design could help customers move through information with more confidence. On the Billing & Payments page, payment options are separated into clear cards with icons, short descriptions and direct calls to action. This helps visitors choose the next step with confidence. The page continues with guided sections for SmartHub features, app access and billing options, helping customers understand the tools available to manage their accounts.

The Understanding Your Bill page takes a different approach by breaking down a sample bill into focused sections. Abstract bill visuals, highlighted callouts and short explanations guide visitors through areas like meter readings, usage comparisons, account information, service fees, demand, taxes and the remittance portion. Instead of presenting everything in one long explanation, the page gives each topic its own space.

Results

The visualized pages help Heber Light & Power make important billing information easier to scan, understand and act on. Visitors can quickly identify the section that matches their question and follow a clear path to the next step. The mix of cards, icons, visual callouts and concise copy creates natural stopping points, helping customers absorb information without feeling overwhelmed.

This approach supports Heber Light & Power’s goal of easy navigation and intuitive design by giving two high-value pages a stronger structure. Billing details can feel routine, but they directly affect customers’ everyday experience with their utility. By making payment options and bill explanations more approachable, Heber Light & Power gives customers a more helpful online experience while reinforcing its commitment to clear communication and dependable service.

The unique designs also give Heber Light & Power more than a place to house information. Whether someone wants to enroll in auto payment, understand demand charges or review where to find their account details, the pages help turn common billing tasks into a more straightforward online experience. That clarity supports both customers and staff by making essential information easier to find from the start.

This site brings together goals in such a beautiful way! The Heber team was looking to provide their customers with a site that was professional, functional, yet recognizable. Having resources, events, and tasks easy to find while spotlighting programs and services was a must. Their goals came to life in a fresh and appealing way while staying true to their brand. Rolling out the site with the grand opening of their new building, Heber Light & Power has a beautiful new digital home to complement their new office front!
