Overview

Fueling Trust & Simplicity Online

When your customers are also your neighbors; trust matters, and that trust should extend to your digital presence. That was the mindset behind Heartland Propane’s decision to redesign their website with Powerful. As a locally owned propane supplier serving communities across Eastern Kansas, Western Missouri, and Northeast Oklahoma, Heartland Propane needed a site that could keep pace with their commitment to responsive service, community care, and around-the-clock support.

Their goals were clear: reduce phone and email volume by promoting online tools, keep content accurate and current, and create a site that felt as easy to navigate as it is to work with their team in person. With these priorities in mind, Powerful delivered a refreshed website rooted in clarity, confidence, and customer care.

Empowering Visitors With Modern Design

Heartland Propane wanted to make it easier for customers to manage their needs online—from learning how to switch to propane services, to reaching support, to paying a bill—without having to make a phone call or send an email. With many visitors seeking quick answers, the team needed a website that could do some of the heavy lifting.

Powerful built the site using their Springwater promotional-based blueprint, which blends bold visuals with short, actionable content. Featured on the homepage, a three-step guide walks new customers through the process of switching propane services—complete with icons, brief explanations, and call-to-action buttons that keep the process moving. Whether visitors are a new homeowner or a longtime customer, the layout is built to guide you through without confusion.

The redesigned site encourages visitors to explore and engage with confidence. By clearly laying out services and resources, the site cuts down on repetitive inquiries and allows team members to focus on more complex or personal support. Since the site is thoughtfully designed and easy to navigate, visitors are more likely to engage with it– and less likely to call just to find basic info.

Navigating with Confidence

Most visitors to Heartland Propane’s site are there for one of three reasons: to pay their bill, request a delivery, or sign up as a new customer. The challenge was making those everyday tasks feel effortless. Heartland Propane wanted a site that anticipated those needs and offered a clear, intuitive path forward.

Powerful prioritized these high-demand tasks throughout the site’s structure. Right from the homepage, bold buttons guide visitors to “My Account,” “Request a Delivery,” and “Become a Customer.” These links are repeated in the main navigation and the footer, so they’re never more than a click away.

By building the site around the real-life needs of its visitors, Heartland Propane creates a smoother experience for customers. It’s a website that works like the company itself: clear, dependable, and always ready to help.

Challenges

Heartland Propane’s commitment to around-the-clock support means customers expect convenience and reliability—any time, from anywhere. With the majority of website visitors accessing the site from mobile devices, it became clear that the digital experience needed to match those expectations. A website that only functioned well on desktop was no longer enough.

Visitors looking to request service, pay a bill, or become a customer were often doing so from their phones. Heartland Propane needed a site that could meet those needs head-on, offering a streamlined, mobile-friendly experience that worked just as well in the palm of a hand as it did on a computer screen.

Solutions

Powerful took a mobile-first approach from the start, designing the site around the most common reasons visitors stop by. The homepage highlights clear, action-driven pathways to pay a bill, request a delivery, or become a customer, eliminating the need to hunt through menus or scroll endlessly. Each section was intentionally laid out to guide visitors quickly to the next step, reducing digital friction and reflecting Heartland Propane’s commitment to making things easier for their community.

In addition to functionality, the mobile experience was crafted to reflect the same clarity and confidence Heartland Propane offers offline. Buttons are spaced for easy tapping, text is legible without pinching or zooming, and key links are repeated in the footer for quick access across the site. Whether visitors are checking in during business hours or reaching out late at night, the design ensures that help—and answers—are never more than a few taps away.

Results

With a fully mobile-optimized design, Heartland Propane’s site now supports how their visitors actually use it: on the go, at odd hours, and often needing answers fast. The most common reasons people visit—paying a bill, requesting service, or becoming a customer—are now the easiest to act on. With an experience that feels as thoughtful as their in-person service, the new design strengthens their connection to the communities they serve.

As the propane subsidiary of an electric co-op, promoting services and products is key to success. Using the Springwater promotional-based blueprint, Heartland Propane can do just that with the easy to navigate and intuitive design. With the main goal of the website being to attract new customers, the Heartland Propane team intentionally crafted humanized content to put people first, backed up by their stellar customer service.
