Meet East Mississippi Electric Power Association
East Mississippi Electric Power Association (EMEPA) is a not-for-profit electric cooperative committed to providing reliable electric energy and improving the quality of life for their members in east Mississippi. With a focus on delivering superior service and ensuring easy access to information, EMEPA partnered with Powerful to redesign its website. The goal was to enhance visitor navigation and create a seamless online experience for both EMEPA and their broadband subsidiary, East Mississippi Connect.
Distinct Identities with Unique Design
EMEPA needed a website that effectively communicated their services and provided a visitor-friendly experience. The challenge was to design a cohesive layout that catered to the needs of both EMEPA and East Mississippi Connect, ensuring members could easily navigate between the two entities while also distinguishing between the services provided by each.
Powerful introduced a promotional blueprint that features a familiar layout for both EMEPA and East Mississippi Connect. This consistency aids in navigation and enhances the visitor experience by maintaining a uniform structure across both sites.
While maintaining a consistent layout was crucial, it was equally important to differentiate between EMEPA and East Mississippi Connect visually. To further assist members, Powerful employed distinct color schemes: red for EMEPA and blue for East Mississippi Connect. This visual differentiation helps visitors instantly recognize which site they are on, reducing any potential confusion.
Streamlined Navigation
EMEPA aimed to provide an easy way for members to switch between electric and broadband services. The challenge was to implement a feature that would allow seamless toggling without causing confusion.
Powerful implemented a department header that allows visitors to toggle between the EMEPA and East Mississippi Connect websites effortlessly. This header is prominently placed at the top of the homepage, making it highly accessible. By providing a straightforward method to switch between EMEPA and East Mississippi Connect, the header ensures that visitors can access the specific services they need without any hassle. This feature has been particularly beneficial in improving overall site navigation.
Challenges
EMEPA sought to enhance their online presence to better serve their members. Beyond the need for a website that improves navigation and service differentiation, EMEPA wanted to capture the essence of the cooperative spirit and the small-town feel of the communities they serve. They aimed to integrate local cultural elements in a way that felt authentic and engaging. The challenge was to integrate these elements in a way that was both aesthetic and functional.Solutions
To address this challenge, Powerful designed a custom illustrated footer that captures the heart of EMEPA’s service area. This footer features iconic imagery, including the Naval Air Station, Clarkco State Park, catfish, and railroads, among others. By integrating these local landmarks and symbols, the footer creates a visual narrative that reflects the cooperative’s deep roots in the community and their commitment to enhancing the quality of life for their members. The design was carefully crafted to blend seamlessly with the modern aesthetic of the website while highlighting the region's unique characteristics.Results
