Dixie Electric Power Association’s First Intranet
Dixie Electric Power Association serves communities across Mississippi with a mission rooted in reliability, integrity, and community support. With 132 full-time employees spread across four office locations, their team depends on clear communication to keep operations running smoothly. After partnering with Powerful to redesign their public-facing website, Dixie Electric saw an opportunity to take their internal communication to the next level. They needed a dedicated intranet that increased transparency, reduced phone and email inquiries, featured relevant and up-to-date content, and offered intuitive navigation for staff across all departments. This intranet would be their first-ever internal platform—a centralized home base where every employee could find the information, updates, and tools they rely on daily. Powerful stepped in to design a solution that honors Dixie Electric’s cooperative values and meets the needs of a large, distributed workforce.
A Reliable Source for a Busy, Multi-Location Team
With 132 full-time employees working between four offices, Dixie Electric wanted a transparent way to share updates, deadlines, and new initiatives so every team member felt informed and included. Their first intranet needed to provide reliable, up-to-date content that employees could access at any time—without having to rely on word-of-mouth or a string of emails to stay in the loop.
Powerful designed an intranet centered around fresh, relevant content delivered through intuitive tools. The Calendar & Events web app allows employees to easily see what’s coming up—whether it’s a volunteer day, safety training, or a holiday luncheon. Each event includes the date, time, and key details, making it simple for staff to stay involved and informed.
The News Releases web app functions like a real-time bulletin board. Staff can check in to see reminders about award nomination deadlines, updates on clothing orders, recaps from company gatherings, or internal initiatives happening across departments. Instead of relying on scattered emails, employees now have a dependable hub where the latest updates live.
To support transparency across every department, Powerful also implemented an organized Staff Directory with headshots, click-to-dial phone numbers, hyperlinked email addresses, and role descriptions. It gives staff a simple way to find and contact colleagues, whether someone at the Laurel office needs to reach a counterpart in Waynesboro or a field crew member needs to call into Petal.
A Blueprint Designed for Productivity & Ease
Dixie Electric set out to reduce the number of routine questions coming in through phone calls and emails. To achieve this, their intranet needed to offer easy access to commonly requested resources—including benefits, personnel policies, forms, and other essential documents. The goal was to make the intranet a meaningful, frequently used tool that employees would naturally turn to first.
Powerful implemented the Tabor blueprint, a search-focused layout built for fast access to information. The moment an employee lands on the homepage, they can simply type what they’re looking for and instantly pull up relevant results. This search-first experience is especially helpful for a team spread across several offices with different departmental needs.
Directly beneath the search bar, clear call-to-action buttons highlight top tasks such as Benefits, Employee Self-Serve, Personnel Policies, and more. These quick pathways eliminate confusion and help staff get where they need to go fast.
Supporting sections throughout the intranet utilize intuitive design to further increase efficiency. FAQ-style accordions allow employees to open or close topics such as policies and benefits without scrolling through long lists. The Resource Directory organizes documents into bold, visually distinct tiles that are easy to scan and select. These elements help employees find what they need without hunting for hidden links or asking multiple people for direction.
Challenges
Dixie Electric’s primary challenge was creating an intranet that employees would feel comfortable using from the start. With a team of 132 full-time staff spread across four office locations, the cooperative needed a platform that employees could access easily and navigate without hesitation. Since this was their first-ever intranet, the experience had to be intuitive enough to avoid overwhelm and welcoming enough to encourage consistent use.At the same time, Dixie Electric needed a login system that wouldn’t disrupt established workflows. Adding a new password or account creation process risked slowing down adoption, especially for employees who move quickly between job sites, departments, and responsibilities. Ensuring the intranet felt like a natural extension of their daily work was essential to meeting their broader goal of simple navigation and dependable access.
Solutions
To support that ease of use, Powerful integrated Microsoft 365 Employee Login Authentication, allowing staff to sign in using the same credentials they already use each day. This approach meant employees didn’t have to learn a new system, remember another password, or manage separate account information. Upon authentication, the intranet syncs profile details with Microsoft 365, ensuring accuracy and keeping everything consistent behind the scenes. This integration also allows automatic registration for employees logging in for the first time, removing barriers that often slow down adoption during major transitions. Combined with Powerful’s clean, search-centered intranet layout, the login experience reinforces a sense of familiarity. Employees can move directly into the tools and information they need—without confusion, extra steps, or a learning curve. New hires can access the platform as soon as their Microsoft account is active, which streamlines internal onboarding and helps them get oriented faster. This predictable, unified login flow supports Dixie Electric’s broader goal of making the intranet easy and unintimidating for every visitor.
Results
As employees begin using the new intranet, the streamlined login experience helps build confidence and comfort early on. Staff can now enter the site in seconds, making it easier for them to engage with internal updates, explore available tools, and rely on the intranet as part of their daily workflow. The familiarity of Microsoft 365 authentication eases the learning curve and makes the platform feel like a natural extension of the tools they already depend on.This inaugural intranet is also an investment in the people behind the cooperative. It strengthens day-to-day communication, supports their shared mission, and makes collaboration feel more seamless. As the organization continues to grow, this new internal hub is well positioned to evolve with them—helping the team stay informed, connected, and supported every step of the way.

It was so exciting to see Dixie Electric's very first intranet come to life! Using our Tabor blueprint, they are able to highlight the search function and large call to action buttons so that employees can quickly find the documents and information they need. Beyond being a central hub of information, this site also allows connection between employees across 4 different locations by highlighting upcoming events, staff member contact details, and an ever-growing photo gallery. I’m looking forward to how this intranet continues to expand as the team settles in!
