Overview

145 Team Members, One Powerful Intranet

Central Texas Electric Co-op (CTEC) serves a wide-reaching member base with dedication and care—and behind the scenes, a team of 145 employees keeps everything running smoothly. With that many employees spread across departments and locations, the need for a central hub was clear. CTEC partnered with Powerful to launch their very first intranet, designed to support transparency, communication, and collaboration. Their vision was to build something modern and forward-thinking, with a focus on increasing engagement and making it easy for employees to find what they need, when they need it. With Powerful’s human-centered design approach, CTEC now has an intranet that brings their team closer together.

Increasing Transparency

One of CTEC’s top priorities was to increase transparency within the organization. That meant making resources easier to access and giving employees a way to voice their ideas. To make this happen, Powerful implemented its Resource Directory app– creating a centralized Forms & Documents Library that allows employees to filter by department category. Instead of sifting through long lists or confusing file names, employees can now find what they need by selecting a category and clicking on clearly labeled document tiles. The organized, visual layout removes the guesswork and keeps things simple.

Transparency isn’t just about access to information—it’s also about having a voice. CTEC’s new intranet features an online Suggestion Box, giving employees a dedicated space to share ideas, provide feedback, or propose improvements. Whether it’s anonymous or not, every suggestion is welcome. This fosters a workplace culture where employees feel heard, valued, and empowered to contribute to the co-op’s evolution.

A Modern Twist on the Bulletin Board

CTEC’s intranet also brings a modern edge to the classic bulletin board. Using Powerful’s News web app, the new “News & Announcements” section keeps everyone in the loop with important updates, recognitions, and celebrations.

This digital space is perfect for highlighting staff achievements, welcoming new hires, and sharing internal news. It turns everyday updates into shared moments– helping foster camaraderie across departments and locations.

Now, instead of hearing things secondhand or missing out entirely, employees can check the intranet for the latest updates. It’s a simple shift that builds stronger connections and reinforces the feeling of being part of something bigger.

Organized & On Time

In a busy organization like CTEC, there’s always something going on—board meetings, volunteer days, office closures, and more. To help employees stay organized and informed, Powerful implemented its Calendar & Events web app.

This interactive calendar gives staff a clear view of upcoming happenings, complete with dates, times, locations, and details. It’s laid out in an easy-to-read format that works just as well on mobile as it does on desktop. It’s easy for admins to update and even easier for employees to follow. With this addition, employees are no longer left guessing what’s going on. The Calendar helps reinforce CTEC’s commitment to a modern, well-connected workplace—where everyone can participate, plan ahead, and show up prepared.

Challenges

As Central Texas Electric Co-op began planning their first-ever intranet, they knew it needed to do more than just store documents and updates—it had to be intuitive. With 145 employees spread across different departments and locations, the platform needed to serve a wide range of daily needs while being easy to navigate for everyone. Their goal was to create an environment where information was readily accessible and didn’t require a learning curve to use.

The challenge was creating a space that could grow with their internal content, without becoming overwhelming or cluttered. The focus quickly turned to searchability, organization, and visitor-friendly design to help CTEC meet their goals of transparency, engagement, and streamlined communication.

Solutions

To meet these needs, Powerful implemented its search-focused Tabor blueprint—a clean, modern design centered around helping employees find what they need fast. At the heart of the homepage sits a large, welcoming search bar with the prompt “What are you looking for?” This single design element immediately encourages interaction and eliminates the need to hunt through layers of navigation. From forms and announcements to events and documents, everything is just a search away.

The Tabor blueprint prioritizes simplicity. Rather than overwhelming employees with too many categories or hidden pages, the homepage offers a central launch point that adapts to the way people naturally seek information. The design makes navigating the intranet feel intuitive from the start.

Results

The result is an intranet experience that feels just as thoughtful as it is functional. Employees are greeted with a clear starting point that immediately encourages them to engage. The search-first layout reduces the guesswork, allowing employees to spend less time looking and more time doing. It reflects CTEC’s commitment to providing modern digital tools that actually work for their team, not just around them.

Without needing to rely on complex navigation or detailed training, employees can find the right forms, check recent announcements, or view upcoming events in a matter of seconds. It’s a design that aligns perfectly with CTEC’s goal of creating a forward-thinking, easy-to-use internal resource. The intranet helps strengthen communication and connection across the entire co-op.

I love the look of our new intranet. It is super functional, and I am excited to see how it will improve our internal communications.

Patricia Stehling

Communications Coordinator

As a former co-op communicator, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to cultivate a workplace culture where employees feel connected, informed and valued. Helping Central Texas Electric Co-op create an intranet that supports that kind of environment—where people can find what they need and feel in the loop—is incredibly rewarding. Bringing employee resources from across the co-op to one localized place helps streamline efficiency and aligns expectations. I am excited to see how the new intranet serves the Central Texas team!
