Overview

Rooted in Cooperative Principles

Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) belongs to the members it serves, making communication and accessibility an important part of the cooperative experience. Since 1939, CVEC has provided electric service across east central Oklahoma while giving members a voice through locally elected trustees and cooperative participation. Its partnership with Powerful focused on bringing those same principles to the website through clear navigation, transparent information, timely updates, and convenient online tools. The new design helps members quickly find what they need while creating more opportunities to stay informed and connected to their cooperative.

Keeping Members in the Loop

A cooperative website has to keep pace with what is happening across the organization, especially when major events call for member participation. CVEC’s new website launched ahead of its 2026 Annual Meeting, creating an ideal opportunity to demonstrate how timely information could become part of the everyday website experience. Rather than treating an important announcement as something visitors would need to hunt down, the new design gives CVEC several ways to place timely priorities directly in front of its audience.

Through Powerful’s Halsey promotional blueprint, CVEC can dedicate a prominent homepage section to a timely campaign, event, or initiative. For the Annual Meeting, the section pairs a large event photo with a concise headline, brief supporting copy, and an action-oriented button leading visitors to complete details. The angled imagery and generous spacing give the announcement its own visual moment without competing with the rest of the homepage. Members scanning the page can quickly understand what is happening, why it is relevant, and where to go next.

Powerful’s News Releases web app gives CVEC another channel for keeping members informed. The Annual Meeting announcement appears within the homepage news area alongside other cooperative updates, providing an additional reminder and inviting members to take part. That invitation carries particular weight for a member-owned organization. Annual meetings give members an opportunity to gather, hear from cooperative leadership, and participate in the democratic structure that distinguishes a cooperative from other utility models.

Together, the promotional Halsey blueprint and News Releases web app give CVEC flexibility in how it communicates changing priorities. A major event can receive prominent homepage attention while supporting articles provide details, reminders, and follow-up information. The same approach can extend to outage preparation, energy programs, youth opportunities, community initiatives, safety information, and other timely topics throughout the year. Regularly refreshed content helps establish the website as an active resource members can return to when they want to know what is happening across their cooperative.

Representation Within Reach

Transparency carries a distinct meaning within the cooperative model. CVEC’s 8 trustees are members themselves, elected by fellow members from the districts they represent. Each member receives one vote, and the board meets monthly to establish goals, policies, procedures, and budgets that guide the cooperative’s operations. Making that leadership visible on the website supports the same principles of representation and accountability that shape CVEC offline.

Powerful’s Staff Directory web app transforms the Board of Trustees page into a clear introduction to the people serving those districts. Each trustee appears in an individual card featuring a professional photograph, name, district, community, and leadership title when applicable. A distinct email button provides a direct path for members who want to reach their representative. The consistent layout makes the information simple to scan while giving every trustee an identifiable presence on the page.

The photographs play an important role, too. CVEC’s trustees are not distant names on an organizational chart. They may be neighbors, colleagues, friends, family members, or familiar faces from communities throughout the service territory. Pairing each name with a photograph and direct contact option helps translate cooperative governance into something personal and recognizable. Members can see who represents their district and know how to begin a conversation when they have a question, concern, or perspective to share.

That connection reinforces one of CVEC’s defining characteristics: its members have a voice in the cooperative’s direction. Presenting board information openly and giving members a clear path to their representatives supports genuine communication between the cooperative and the communities it serves. When leadership is visible and accessible, the website becomes more than a source for utility information. It becomes another place where CVEC can put cooperative principles into practice and help members feel connected to the organization they help shape.

Challenges

CVEC wanted its website to serve as a practical starting point for everyday requests, giving members more opportunities to complete tasks online instead of relying on a phone call or email for the next step. Several important processes required detailed forms, including the Sharing Success Grant Program, Auto Draft Bank Payment, Solar Interconnection Agreement, and other service-related requests. Bringing those forms into the website experience created an opportunity to make each process easier to find, understand, and complete.

That goal carried added importance because these forms support very different needs across the cooperative. One may help a member enroll in a payment option, while another supports a local organization seeking community funding or a property owner beginning the solar interconnection process. Each request depends on accurate information, so CVEC needed an approach that could guide visitors through the submission process while also helping reduce incomplete forms, follow-up questions, and unnecessary back-and-forth.

Solutions

Powerful transformed several of CVEC’s PDF forms into online forms that visitors can complete and submit directly through the website. The experience exceeds Powerful’s STAR Standard by being searchable, translatable, accessible, and responsive while adding functionality a static document cannot provide. Required fields and built-in validation help visitors provide complete, properly formatted information before submitting a request.

For example, a member enrolling in Auto Draft Bank Payment can enter the requested information online rather than downloading a PDF, printing it, filling it out by hand, and figuring out how to return it. The same approach applies to forms such as the Solar Interconnection Agreement and Sharing Success Grant Program application, giving each process a clear path from information to submission within the website.

The improvements continue behind the scenes. Once a form is submitted, the corresponding CVEC department receives a notification so the request can reach the appropriate team without relying on manual forwarding between inboxes. CVEC staff can also review and manage submissions through an organized backend, giving them a central place to track incoming information and support the next step in each process.

Results

The expanded collection of online forms creates a strong foundation for reducing routine phone calls and emails tied to locating forms, understanding submission steps, or correcting missing information. Validation can help improve the completeness of submissions before they reach staff, while department notifications help route requests to the team responsible for reviewing them.

The result is a process designed to support both sides of the interaction. Members gain another convenient way to complete important requests, while CVEC staff have a more organized system for managing submissions. As more common processes move online, the website can continue to play a larger role in day-to-day service while giving staff more room to focus on questions and requests that benefit from personal assistance.

Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative's motto is to “Improve Life, Serve Community”. This new site does exactly that by making key information for members easily accessible from the homepage. Within the first scroll, site visitors are immediately greeted with a promotional section for paying their bill and large call to action buttons that direct them to other top tasks they may be trying to complete. As they continue to scroll, they’ll find more promotional sections addressing the most commonly visited information as well as a news section that keeps them up-to-date on what’s happening at the cooperative. CVEC wanted to provide a site experience that served their communities needs and they more than delivered!
