Strengthening Legislative Awareness Across Arkansas

Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas partnered with Powerful to redesign the Arkansas Legislative Guide app, a mobile resource built to support legislative awareness, civic understanding, and cooperative advocacy across the state. The app serves as a trusted guide for learning about Arkansas’s electric cooperatives while following state legislative activity in one centralized place. It brings together cooperative information, bill summaries, elected official contact details, and interactive tools that help visitors better understand how policy and governance connect to the communities they serve.

This project built on an established relationship. Powerful previously designed the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas website, which provided a strong foundation for understanding the organization’s role, audience, and communication goals. That familiarity informed an app experience focused on clarity, credibility, and ease of use. The redesign supports how visitors engage with legislative content by presenting verified information from trusted sources in a way that feels organized, approachable, and dependable throughout each legislative session.

Keeping Legislative Bills Easy to Follow

The Legislative Bills section is a central part of how visitors use the Arkansas Legislative Guide app. Legislative sessions move quickly, and bills can change status with little notice. The goal of this section was to make it easier for visitors to stay oriented by presenting bills in a clear, repeatable format that supports regular check-ins rather than one-time visits.

Powerful designed bill listings to surface the details visitors look for first. Each bill includes a concise summary and a clear status label, allowing visitors to understand progress at a glance. A Favorites feature was added so bills of interest can be saved and revisited later, eliminating the need to search for the same information repeatedly as sessions progress.

This approach supports active engagement with legislation. Visitors can quickly return to the bills they are monitoring, track changes over time, and stay focused on issues that directly affect their work and communities. The section functions as an ongoing reference rather than a static list, which is especially valuable during busy legislative periods.

Designed to Support Confidence & Clarity

Legislative information often requires context beyond what is shown on the surface. To support this, a Notes feature was introduced for both bills and representatives. Notes live directly within each detail view, giving visitors a private space to record observations, reminders, or questions tied to specific items. This allows the app to function as a working tool rather than just a viewing experience.

Powerful also implemented a Feedback feature to support accuracy and transparency. Visitors can report incorrect information or submit questions directly from the content they are viewing. This creates a clear path for communication without requiring visitors to leave the app or track down contact information elsewhere.

Together, these features reinforce trust in the app as a reliable resource. Visitors can engage more thoughtfully with legislative content, maintain personal context, and feel confident that there is a straightforward way to flag issues or seek clarification. The result is an experience that supports informed participation and ongoing credibility throughout each legislative session.
