Overview

A New Era for a New Generation & Transmission Cooperative

When 1803 Electric Cooperative was established in 2019, it marked the beginning of a new chapter in Louisiana’s energy landscape. As a not-for-profit generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative, 1803 was created by Louisiana’s distribution cooperatives with one goal in mind: to better serve their members through locally governed, reliable, and affordable electricity. With operations officially beginning in 2025 and approximately 175,000 Louisiana member-consumers served, 1803 needed a website that matched the scale of their mission and the transparency of their values.

The redesign was guided by three main priorities: increasing transparency, making information easy to navigate, and keeping content timely and relevant for their member cooperatives. Here’s how Powerful brought those goals to life.

Increasing Transparency Through Design

As a G&T cooperative, 1803 Electric Cooperative doesn’t serve individual households directly—they serve their member cooperatives, who in turn serve communities. That means every action they take impacts not just one organization, but the broader communities those members power. With this level of responsibility comes the need for clarity. To help fulfill their goal of increased transparency, Powerful implemented the Resource Directory app, a tool designed to make information about 1803’s business relationships and member cooperatives accessible at a glance.

Utilizing this feature, 1803 can visually showcase the organizations they partner with through a clean and clickable tile layout—each logo represents a partner or member and leads to a dedicated page with a brief description and external link. Whether a visitor is looking to understand 1803’s trusted partners or identify which co-op serves their area, the Resource Directory acts as a clear and inviting guide.

By organizing these relationships into an intuitive format, 1803 can clearly showcase the cooperative and industry partners they work with, reinforcing trust and credibility with their visitors. Whether someone is learning about the organization for the first time or researching industry affiliations, the Resource Directory creates a clean, accessible way to connect with the bigger picture behind the power.

Making Navigation Easy & Intuitive

As a cooperative made up of other cooperatives, 1803’s website visitors are often board members, staff, or stakeholders from across the state—people who need fast access to accurate information without having to dig. That’s why Powerful used its Laurelhurst Promotional blueprint to create a homepage experience that anticipates the visitor’s journey and guides them where they need to go.

From the first scroll, the site gives a clear picture of who 1803 is and what they do. A prominent welcome section introduces their mission of delivering reliable, affordable electricity. Directly below that, two high-traffic buttons lead to “Our Members” and “Careers”—helpful for anyone looking to connect with a specific cooperative or explore employment opportunities. Sections like “Business Relationships” and “Mission & Vision” are cleanly laid out with simple headlines, bold numbers, and eye-catching photography to drive their messaging.

The design uses clear calls to action to create a sense of flow. For 1803, that means less confusion and more connection. Visitors don’t have to guess where to click– they’re naturally guided by the design. That seamless experience goes a long way toward building confidence in 1803’s operations and values.

Challenges

As a relatively new organization—founded in 2019 and officially beginning operations in 2025—1803 Electric Cooperative faced the unique challenge of establishing a strong digital presence from the ground up. Unlike long-standing organizations with decades of brand recognition, 1803 needed a website that could quickly communicate their values, mission, and structure to a wide audience. That audience includes their six member cooperatives, board members, business partners, and the communities they ultimately serve. As a generation and transmission cooperative, their role is vital, but less visible—so it was important their website helped demystify who they are and what they do.

Creating trust and credibility through the screen was a key priority. The brand needed to feel unified and modern, without losing the cooperative warmth and purpose behind it. A clean, cohesive design with clearly structured content and engaging visuals would help visitors—many of whom may be learning about 1803 for the first time—quickly understand their story, leadership structure, and impact across Louisiana.

Solutions

To support that vision, Powerful delivered a website that feels professional, modern, and also tells a compelling story. One standout example is the visualized “Who We Are” page, which brings 1803’s journey to life through a dynamic mix of bold graphics, animated statistics, iconography, and photos. Rather than reading through a wall of text, the page feels like a visual narrative—breaking down complex cooperative history and structure into bite-sized, engaging content blocks that are easy to digest. Visitors can quickly understand when 1803 was founded, how they were formed by their member cooperatives, and what sets them apart from investor-owned utilities—all within a few scrolls.

Results

This design approach gives 1803 a powerful platform to establish and grow their reputation. It’s one thing to say you’re a reliable, member-governed cooperative—it's another to show it, and this site does exactly that. For a new organization, these details matter. The ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and consistently builds credibility with visitors and helps reinforce trust within the member-consumers they serve. Even in its early stages, the website reflects a cooperative that’s organized, forward-looking, and committed to its role in Louisiana’s energy future. It lays a strong foundation for growth, engagement, and the kind of transparency that keeps members informed and connected for years to come.

Getting to work with 1803 Electric Co-op on this project was incredibly rewarding. They’re building something meaningful for Louisiana’s energy future, and it was important to us that their website reflected that purpose. We focused on clarity, intuitive navigation, and meaningful information, ensuring every page supports their goals. I’m excited for them to step into this next phase with a strong digital presence to match.
